Download Windows Media Player 12 for Windows 7, Vista & XP

Windows Media Player 12 is not officially available but you can download it as a beta version to get the preview of all its upcoming features. The Player 12 version would be offered as a combo in Windows 7 Operating System. You can also download the Windows Media Player 12 skins for Windows Vista & Windows XP if you want to get the same looks on your OS without installing the beta version.

This version of WMP is quite better than the version 11 because there are many changes made to the buttons and navigation. The player comes with two different player modes called as Playing View & Library View. Library view contains all the library manipulation features that should be familiar from WMP11. Now Playing view contains the current playlist, visualizations, and videos. After making some searches i found that there was a download link available online, you can try it out and check out the players features.

How to Fix Low Virtual Memory Error in Windows

Generally when you install/run very big applications like 3DMax, Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Dreamweaver the windows based PCs start giving you a error message saying Your system is low on virtual memory. To ensure that Windows runs properly, increase the size of your virtual memory paging file.

Reasons for Low Virtual Memory :

Lets say you are running a application like Adobe Photoshop and while you are rendering a big sized image the pc starts using high amount of RAM and when there isnt any adequate Random Access Memory on your PC which can handle processing of this data. This is when the PC starts using the Virtual Memory.

What is Virtual Memory :

Temporary storage used by a computer to run programs that need more memory than it has. For example, programs could have access to 4 gigabytes of virtual memory on a computers hard drive, even if the computer has only 32 megabytes of RAM. The program data that does not currently fit in the computers memory is saved into paging files.

Finding Source of Low Virtual Memory Problem :

In order to quickly solve this problem you need to first find the source of it by checking out the Task Manager and analyzing all the programs to find which one of those is using the highest memory and closing them. This way you can close the programs which you are not actively using and those which use high amount of your memory.

Click on Windows Task Manager > View > Select Columns

Next Click on Select Columns option from the View Menu and Check on Virtual Memory Size Option

How to Start Windows in Safe Mode?

Question : I have been a Windows User from the past 9 years and whenever i install some new software application, i get a error on my computer which asks me to restart the computer in Safe Mode and then uninstall the recently installed software to fix the issue. Iam really confused how to restart the computer in Safe Mode and get access to it because whenever i start the computer it shows me Welcome to Windows Screen and then Loading Windows but no option like Safe Mode is found in the Control Panel too. Please help me find it.

Answer : In every Windows Operating System starting from Windows 95, 98/Me, 2000, XP, Vista to Windows 7, you will be able to boot your Windows in the Safe Mode. This means that this isnt any option in the control panel but starting your computer in a completely Safe Mode where in you can perform different tasks. Anyway in order to get started you will have to from your normal Windows Operating System, click on the restart button and reboot your computer. Once the PC starts loading, following a beep you need to press the F8' key on your keyboard multiple times so that you dont miss the function of entering into the Safe Mode.

Next you will find a list of options which would ask you to select one of these as listed below.
  • Safe Mode
  • Safe Mode with Networking
  • Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Based on your requirements you can select the option and continue with your main task. Sometimes these options wont be working which is when you can use the System Configuration Tool Method, under which you need to click on Start > Run > msconfig.

Next you will get a new utility, under which you will find different Startup selections under the General Tab. Next under the BOOT.INI menu in the main tabs you will find different options out of which you need to select the /SAFEBOOT under boot options which would then perform the same action and would confirm you to restart your computer, which once done would start your computer in Safe Mode.

How to Read Popular Magazines Online for Free?

There are many different ways through which you can read different magazines online for free of cost but in this article iam going to show you a excellent way which was sent to us by one of our blog reader. Generally most of the paid magazines are paid ones and the subscription costs range from 20-100$ per year which is the reason if you try to opt for a few magazines the total annual bills would reach to bigger numbers.

First of all you need to download the Safari Browser which comes preinstalled in Mac computers and which is available as a free download for my readers. Next you need to go to the Advanced option in it by clicking on Edit > Preferances > Advanced > Show Develop Menu in menu bar. Click on the checkbox to yes.

Next you will find a new option on your Browsers Menu Bar under the name of Develop where you need to select the option of iPhone Agent. Go to Develop > User Agent > Mobile Safari 3.1.2 iPhone.

Once this is done what really happens is that, your browser now opens websites as if they were loading on a Apple iPhone. This would make you access the iPhone optimized websites inside your Safari Browser. Next access the URL http://imgs.zinio.com/iphone/. You can also try to uninstall and reinstall these high memory using programs because sometimes older versions of some software end up using high amount of RAM/Virtual RAM. I would recommend you to setup your Virtual Memory to 1.5 times of your physical memory for better performance.

How to Disable Automatic Updates Restart Computer Notification?

Whenever you go for a windows xp software update you will be notified with a message every 10minutes to either Restart the computer right away or later and this notifications keep popping up every 10minutes which can make you annoyed and would plan to restart but if you are in the middle of some important work then you should find a way to disable this notification and it would pop-up back after a 24 hours delay between which you can continue with your work without any disturbance.

Here is the way to stop these notifications.
  • Click Start >>> Run >>> type in gpedit.msc
  • Go to Local Computer Policy >>> Computer Configuration >>> Administrative Templates >>> Windows Components >>> Windows Update >>> Next
  • To disable auto restart: double click No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Update installations and enable this function.
  • To delay the re-prompt by 24 hours: double click Re-prompt for restart with scheduled installations and enable this function. Then set the timing to 1440 minutes this is the maximum allowable time

Its generally recommended to restart your computer whenever you make a computer windows update because in most cases these are very important security updates and restarting would mean installation of these notifications. You are at risk if you dont restart your computer once the updates are downloaded and installed but at certain times you would need the above trick while you are in the middle of something where you cannot restart. This trick works on Windows XP Professional and not on Windows XP home version.

Regain Hard Disk Space & Clean Up Data

This tip is useful for most Windows Operating System based PC users where in they want to regain the hard disk storage space instead of buying a new Hard Disk Drive. Currently you would find these options only in Microsoft Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and Vista. If you find that your Disk Drives are full and you get a message for the same then its time for buying a new External Hard Disk Drive, upgrading your internal hard disk or else applying the following tweaks.

Click on My Computer Icon located on your desktop and go to the desired drive in which you want to regain the space by deleting unnecessary files. Right click on the drive and click on Properties. On the main first General Tab you will find Disk Cleanup option, Click on it.

It starts scanning for Compressed Old Files, Catalog Files for the Content Indexer & Recycle Bin Files. Then gives you with a quick report on the files which can be deleted, and a option to Check/unCheck them before deleting. Generally these files are permanently deleted and you cannot recover them. The Old Compressed files are those which are saved on your after a certain time period and there is generally no need for those.

Once you select these files and CleanUp you would regain a lot of hard disk space which was previously used by useless files.

The saved space may not be very high but it depends on the files space already used and deleted after the above step but it can still help you when you are in urgent need of some Disk Space while installing a new software.

A look at Windows Phone's 'smart links'

When it comes to copy and paste, Microsoft argues that there's a better way of doing things on the phone.

Rather than include the feature in Windows Phone 7 Series devices (something many users say they want), Microsoft argues that a better approach is simply to offer so-called smart links--which recognize a block of text, such as a hyperlink, phone number, or address, and allow a specific action to be taken.
For a phone number, such "smart links" would allow the number to be dialed. An address might get pulled up in the mapping program, while clicking on a hyperlink would open that page in the browser.

"We don't enable copy and paste and we do that very intentionally," Windows Phone executive Todd Brix said in an interview at Microsoft's Mix conference earlier this week. "It's actually an intentional design decision," he said. "We try to anticipate what the user wants so copy and paste isn't necessary."

Here's a look at the feature in action.

In the first image, from the text message folder, both an address and phone number are recognized as "smart links."

In the second image, the address, once clicked on, brings up that photo in the built-in Bing Maps application.

So what do you think? Does that meet your copy and pasting needs, or would you still rather have that as an option?

Microsoft unveils Windows Phone Series 7

Microsoft Corp. unveiled a new operating system for mobile phones Monday, marking its latest move to reclaim a leading position against rivals Apple, Research in Motion and Google.

Just a few years ago, Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) was embedded in about a quarter of all smartphones sold. It's now in less than 10%, with competition coming from the iPhone and BlackBerry. Google (GOOG, Fortune 500)'s Android has only made a crowded space even tougher for Microsoft.

Now, after months of speculation, Microsoft has confirmed that 7 will be a tiles based interface and include live access to Facebook, plus its own offerings X-Box Live for gaming and Zune for music and photos. Its search engine Bing is also included.

Microsoft says it looks like nothing on the market and the advantage lies with consumers gaining instant access to all these offerings on their smartphones.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer told CNN that this is a major push for the company to get back in the mobile space. He said 7-based smart phones will be sold by the likes of Samsung, LG and HTC and will be available by Christmas this year on multiple mobile networks.

The software experience is designed to "fundamentally focus on what's most important to each individual user," said Joe Belfiore, Microsoft's corporate vice president for Windows Phone Program Management, during a Web cast from Barcelona.

0:00 /5:01Microsoft sees a big year ahead

The operating system's start screen is made up of several "live tiles" that are updated in real-time. So instead of seeing an icon for a Facebook application, Belfiore explained that users will be able to browse through their contacts and get live updates from their Facebook, Windows Live and other social media services in one hub, without moving in and out of various applications.

Users will be able to create live tiles on their start screens for contacts to get constant updates for certain individuals.
Though the iPhone has been outselling the Windows Mobile devices for two years, it recently beat Microsoft in terms of active smartphone users, according to data from comScore.

At the end of 2009, BlackBerry continued to hold the lead with 41.6%, followed by the iPhone with 25.3% and Microsoft came in third with 18% of the smartphone market share. While Google (GOOG, Fortune 500)'s Android still ranks fifth behind the Palm, its market share climbed the most during the fourth quarter, rising to 5.2% from 2.5% in September.

Strong Windows 7 sales boost Microsoft profits

Software maker Microsoft recorded a bigger-than-expected 60 percent jump in quarterly profit, thanks to strong sales of its latest operating system, Windows 7.

The company also said it expected business technology spending to recover this year.

"We didn't see enterprise spending growth in our fiscal second quarter just ended," Chief Financial Officer Peter Klein said.

"However, our general view is a recovery will occur starting this calendar year and gradually over the next several years," he added.

Microsoft's net profit came to US$6.7 billion, or 74 cents per share, for its fiscal second quarter, versus US$4.2 billion, or 47 cents per share, a year ago.

"Make no mistake, these were very good results out of Microsoft. Expectations were heightened ever the last few weeks, given Q4 PC shipments and good numbers from Intel," said Andy Miedler, analyst at Edward Jones.

The company stopped making specific profit or revenue forecasts in January 2009, citing market volatility. But Windows 7 has proved to be Microsoft's strongest-selling operating system to date after the disappointing Vista. PC sales grew 15.2 percent last quarter.

Microsoft's revenue rose 14 percent to US$19.02 billion, including US$1.71 billion of deferred revenue from the Windows 7 launch in October. Excluding that, sales were US$17.31 billion.

The company's stock has risen 62 percent over the past 12 months, outstripping a 40 percent gain in the Nasdaq.

"Last year the [Microsoft's] stock was a big outperformer. A lot of people think the stock has already had its run," said Jane Snorek, technology analyst at First American Funds. "But I think with PCs doing this well and a new Office coming in June, that the stock can still outperform. I think Office can be a big hit."
